"Windows Protected Your PC" Pop-Up
What is going on?
Basically, Windows has a tool called Windows SmartScreen that gives you a warning when you run unknown programs on your computer. Programs that are registered with Microsoft are considered safe to Microsoft, as they have paid the $400-700 fee to be stamped as trustworthy. It will run like normal if that program is in its trusted program database. This is why most programs from big companies do not have this popup. To get on this database and become a known program, we must purchase two "EV Code Signing Certificates".
Obviously, this is very expensive just for one piece of software. We’d need to get both the parent and child programs signed, racking up over a thousand dollars to stop a dismissable screen from popping up. If you still don’t trust the program for any reason, something we completely understand, there is a manual installation method on the support Discord server.
If you get this popup, click the More Info button (if it appears) and then the Run Anyway button to continue. Documentation on this can be found here.
We have made every effort to make sure Windows Defender does not believe any part of the installer is malicious. However, by the very nature of making additions to the system settings (which are necessary to connect your clients to your server), we have to accept that false positives may occur. If this occurs, please let us know, and we can communicate with Microsoft to get the application whitelisted on the Windows Defender database. As you can see below, we should be on the database as is, but if your Microsoft Defender is not up-to-date, it may incorrectly detect it.
